"Romerias"(Pilgrimages) January/March/April/May/June

Pilgrimages are journeys to holy places. Near an hermitage or sanctuary, the "romeros" or travellers take part in acts of religious devotion which are also celebrated with songs, dances and banquets.

"Semana Santa" (Eastern Week) & Corpus Cristi March/April/May/June

The religious processions which are celebrated during Holy Week and Corpus Cristi provide opportunities to contemplate the artistic treasures which are kept in the temples of Andalucia’s cities and towns.

"Ferias" (Fairs) April/May/June/July
/August/October

Fairs: Although originally intended for agriculture and livestock trading, Andalucia’s famous fairs have evolved into festive celebrations. The images of horseback strolls, bullfights and traditional dances have gone around the world.

"Fiestas Patronales" (Patron Saint Days) Whole year Round

Patron Saint Days: In Andalucia offer different manifestations depending on the history and customs of the area. They include everything from "Christians and Moors" celebrations to processions of venerated religious figures.

Colourful demonstrations through most important streets of the city with music, dances, song and fun.

"Flamenco" (Andalusian Folklore) Whole year Round

Flamenco is the genuine expression of Andalucia’s folklore. The different forms of singing and guitar playing can be enjoyed thanks to the rich calendar of events which are organized each year, and every day in all Andalusian Cities.

CATALONIA

"Carnival" (Sitges, Solsona & Vilanova i la Geltrú) February

Colourful demonstrations through most important narrow streets of the city with music, dances, song and fun.

"Dance of the Death" (Verges) Eastern Week

Performed in the streets on Holy Thursday, has purely Christian roots and commemorates the terrible plagues of the Middle Ages.

"Patron Saint George" (Barcelona) 23th. April

Sant Jordi (Patron Saint George): means in the whole city a big and beautiful festivity where everybody looks for buying a book for the person who loves, with a red flower (rose). The City is fully occupied by book shops and rose spontaneous shoppers.

"Patum" (Berga) Corpus Christi - June

If you feel brave enough to be chased through the streets by fire-breathing dragons, giant eagles and demons hurling firecrackers, then you will enjoy the "Patum".

"Aplecs of Sardanas" (All County) June/July/August/September

National dance in Catalonia is the "Sardana", a beautiful dance where everybody is welcome. Men give their wright hand to its couple, and others can go inside the dance, entering through left hand side of the men. Music is performed by 12 musicians (Cobla) with classical and genuine instruments of the catalan folklore.
In Barcelona City every Saturday evening, Sunday morning (in front of the Cathedral) and Sunday evening at Plaça Sant Jaume Square, you can enjoy this music and dance.

"11th. September" (Catalan National Day): 11th. September

Barcelona: Demonstrations till Rafael de Casanova Statue (National hero, in the war against Castillian invasion, XVIIIth. C.) where people deposites flowers and sings the National Song of Catalonia: Els Segadors.

"24th. September" (Patron Saint Day of Barcelona): 24th. September

Local Folklore in the streets: Sardanas (national dance of Catalonia), Castellers (human towers), Giants (big figures parading and dancing), Caps Grossos (dwarfs) and different demonstrations though the whole City.

"Pessebres vivents" Xmas & New Year -All County

Local performances of the Christ living times, done by non professional artists.

CASTILLA

"Bullfights, in Saint Isidro Fair – Madrid" May/June

Most important Bullfhigts Fair of the year, with daily "Corridas".

"Cuenca’s Holy Week" & "Corpus Cristi Festival (Toledo) -

Two grand celebrations which bring together in the streets the inhabitants of each cities, together with many visitors to celebrate those religious festivities.

"Falles in València" 19th. March

The whole City seams under the fire in the night when begans the Feast: Big figures of 10/12 mts. high burn at the same time of noisy fire-arm festival starts.

BALEARIC ISLANDS

"Horse Festival" in Ciutadella – Menorca Island 24th. June

Old local tradition with nice horses demonstration with people in old dresses wear.

BASQUE COUNTY

"Traineras" (Coastal Areas) SUMMER

Old tradition in coastal areas, celebrating competitions of small sea-boats ("traineras") very attiring for local people and tourists.

"San Fermin" (Pamplona/Navarra) 07th. to 14th. July

Around the world known celebration, where bulls are running in the street following thousand athletic runners in a very rsiky ride. Early, every morning, during one complete week. In the afternoon, bullfights in the arena "Plaza de Toros" (corridas).

"Txikiteo" (All County) All year round

Everywhere, not depending on City or village, is it tradition for evening times to go on "txikiteo", which means to go to different "tabernas" (local bars) to take "tapas" (small dishes) and tasting different wines.

21.December: Santo Tomás ("tamborinada"), a lot of people with drums playing in the streets (San Sebastian/Donostia City).
Xmas time: Processions in Pamplona/Iruña, sea-boat competitions in Bidasoa Valley, Larraun and Arakil.

GALICIA

"Santiago de Compostela" (City & Cathedral) All year Round

Arrival of thousand pilgrims who has walked along the world known "Camino de Santiago", which follows different countryside ways from Spain, France and Portugal, ending all these religious pilgrimages at Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.
